About
Catherine James was elected to Travelers Rest City Council in November, 2023. She currently serves on the Public Works committee and recently graduated from the Municipal Elected Officials Institute of Government, a multi-part training program covering topics including Budgeting and Municipal Finance, Forms of Municipal Government, the Freedom of Information Act, Economic Development, and Governance and Policy.​​
In her profession, Catherine serves as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy for Greenville Federal Credit Union, a $480 million federally chartered credit union based in Greenville, SC. Additionally, Catherine serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Roper Mountain Science Center Association and Vice-Chair of the Greenville County Schools Foundation Board of Directors. She was a former Teacher of the Year Judge for Greenville County Schools, and former assistant clerk and poll manager for the Greenville County Elections Board. She is a member of Leadership Greenville, Class 49 and in 2023, Catherine was included among Talk Magazine’s 25 Most Beautiful People for her service and leadership.
Catherine grew up in Greenville and graduated from Furman University. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration degree at Gardner-Webb University.

Family
Catherine and her husband John have lived in Travelers Rest since 2004. They have one daughter who is currently a student at the University of South Carolina Honors College.
