We celebrated Brantly Vest's last meeting with a proclamation honoring his eight years of service on City Council. Thank you, Brantly, for your willingness to serve your city. Your steady leadership and easy-going nature will be greatly missed.
Travelers Rest City Council Committee Meeting July 10
Public Works:
• June glass recycling event collected 10,000+ lbs, largest turnout yet; plans for regular events underway.
• Park restroom renovations nearly complete with new panels, toilets, and painting.
• Screening around recycle dumpsters finished.
• Zipline currently out of service, awaiting parts and repair coordination with Greenville County Rec.
• Poinsett Project Update: Paving scheduled for northbound lane and right-turn lane onto Tubbs Mountain Ext. mid to late next week
Police Department:
• Walmart shoplifting arrests down to zero in June.
• License Plate Readers effectively issuing tickets and aiding public safety.
Fire Department:
• Welcomed new hires Ashton Osborne and Aaron Smith.
• Participating in Fire Safe South Carolina with materials on display.
Planning & Development:
• Pinestone commercial development progressing with site grading and exterior work.
• AM/PM Farms Butchery and Market coming to space next to Farmhouse Tacos
• Rezoning applications for 102 Forest Drive and 101 Hilltop Drive approved to proceed to City Council.
• White Hawk Meadows Phase 2 subdivision plan submitted and moving forward.
Ways and Means:
• Monthly financial reports forthcoming; year-end closeout expected in 45–60 days.
Committee of the Whole Property Transfer Ordinance:
• Motion passed to forward property transfer of a small strip of city land to Greenville County for Summary Court boundary alignment.
• City retains rights for access and parking; county retains court building ownership.
Miscellaneous:
• Upcoming animal foster care agreement and ordinance update to improve animal control.
• Stray dog issues addressed: city receives reports via dispatch and app, uses chip scanners, and actively manages animal control.
Travelers Rest City Council Meeting July 10
• Ordinance for transferring the Summary Court property to Greenville County was introduced and passed on first reading, with one dissenting vote.
• Two rezoning motions were made and passed on first reading: TR-25-04: Rezoning 102 Forest Drive from R-7.5 (single-family residential) to RD (residential duplex); TR-25-05: Rezoning 101 Hilltop Drive from R-7.5 to RD. Both rezoning items will require a second reading before final approval.
